Christopher Shumake, M.D.

Dr. Christopher Shumake joined the staff of Florida Eye Institute in July of 2015. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, he earned his bachelor and medical degrees from the University of Mississippi. Following his medical internship at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Dr. Shumake returned to Jackson, Mississippi to complete his Ophthalmology residency at Ole Miss, where he was elected Chief Resident and received the Louisiana & Mississippi Otolaryngology and Ophthalmology Award.

With a special interest in corneal disease and transplant surgery, Dr. Shumake was selected by Duke University in Durham, North Carolina for Fellowship training. He has performed custom cataract and corneal transplant surgery for over 25 years.

Dr. Shumake is a member of the Aspen Corneal Society, Florida Society of Ophthalmology, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He founded The Eye Institute of Medicine and Surgery in Melbourne, Florida in 1996, where he served as Medical Director and Director of Refractive Surgery.

An avid cyclist and tennis player, Dr. Shumake resides in Brevard County with his wife, Mona.
