The Cataract Center
In order to advance Florida Eye Institute's long history of leadership in cataract surgery, Dr. Val Zudans announced the formation of the Cataract Center at The Florida Eye Institute in July of 2009. The Cataract Center offers the state-of-the-art no-needle, no-stitch cataract surgery with the latest advances in intraocular lens (IOL) implant technology including Tecnis Multifocal, Crystalens, ReSTOR, Toric, and Softec HD.
The Cataract Center at The Florida Eye Institute is a leader in optimizing lens calculations through the use of the Zeiss IOL Master, immersion ultrasound, Marco OPD-III topography, manual and automated keratometry, Holladay IOL software, and Ocular Coherence Tomography to measure, evaluate, and calculate IOL powers. The Florida Eye Institute physicians have developed protocols for dealing with complex lens calculation scenarios including prior LASIK or RK and patients with previous retinal surgeries including scleral buckles and/or silicone oil implantation. The physicians and dedicated technical staff also utilize computerized outcomes analysis to optimize lens selection and track our results.
With the advances now available through the Cataract Center at the Florida Eye Institute, patients have the option to correct their astigmatism and/or presbyopia (loss of reading vision) at the time of cataract surgery. This allows many of these patients to reduce or even eliminate the need for glasses after their cataract surgery.
